Hello, and welcome to the chat area of SSG

The chat group, started in 1999, was originally for members of the Short Story Group who wanted a place to get to know each other outside the business of critting the stories. Although we call ourselves the chat group, we operate through email rather than chat rooms.

Membership used to be only for existing members of the Short Story Group, but now that the rules have been relaxed slightly the chat group is open to anyone interested in getting in touch with other writers.

What do we talk about? Anything under the sun, including writing :-)

We’re here to help, advise, and support each other through the good times and the bad, and also to share a laugh and a joke to cheer the day.

Writing Exercises – Break the Block

We have daily writing exercises in the form of freewriting prompts that anyone can join in with, or not as they fancy. They are not compulsory, but many members have a go and share the results with the rest of us. We don’t critique. Positive comments on shared freewrites are encouraged, but crits are definitely out. The main SSG list is where we submit work for critique.

Some members take turns to send out the prompts on a weekly basis, (Mon – Fri), so there is a good mix of thoughts and ideas to help get the creative juices flowing.

How to Join

If you’d like to join us in chat, click here to email Deb and tell me a bit about yourself, including where you’re up to with writing and whether or not you’ve joined the main critique list.

We use Yahoogroups to distribute email amongst us, but as yet it’s not an open group that anyone can add themselves to. You need to write to me first and I’ll your name to the list asap.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Happy Writing,

Deb.
